Supplemental Insurance in Iowa

Dental, vision, accident, critical illness and hospital plans that pay you directly.

Supplemental insurance sits alongside your health plan. It isn't comprehensive coverage and it isn't a replacement for it. It pays a set benefit directly to you when a covered event happens, which gives you cash for the deductible, the time off work, or the bills your health plan doesn't touch.

Common types

  • Dental and vision. Cleanings, fillings, exams, glasses and contacts. Many Marketplace and Medigap plans include neither.
  • Accident. A fixed payment for injuries, from an ER visit to a fracture.
  • Critical illness. A lump sum on diagnosis of a covered condition such as a heart attack, stroke or cancer.
  • Hospital indemnity. A daily benefit for each day you're admitted, often used to offset a high-deductible health plan.
  • Short-term disability. Income replacement when you can't work for a stretch.

Individual or through your employer

Employers can offer most of these as voluntary benefits at no cost to the business. Individuals and Medicare beneficiaries can buy them directly. We'll show you what a plan pays, what it excludes, and whether it's worth the premium for your situation.
